He was lost!–Not a shade of doubt of that;
For he never barked at a slinking cat,
But stood in the square where the wind blew raw,
With a drooping ear, and a trembling paw,
And a mournful look in his pleading eye,
And a plaintive sniff at the passer-by
That begged as plain as a tongue could sue,
“Oh, Mister, please may I follow you?”
A lorn, wee waif of a tawny brown
Adrift in the roar of a heedless town.
Oh, the saddest of sights in a world of sin
Is a little lost pup with his tail tucked in!

Well, he won my heart (for I set great store
On my own red Bute, who is here no more)
So I whistled clear, and he trotted up,
And who so glad as that small lost pup?

Now he shares my board, and he owns my bed,
And he fairly shouts when he hears my tread.
Then if things go wrong, as they sometimes do,
And the world is cold, and I’m feeling blue,
He asserts his right to assuage my woes
With a warm, red tongue and a nice, cold nose,
And a silky head on my arm or knee,
And a paw as soft as a paw can be.

When we rove the woods for a league about
He’s as full of pranks as a school let out;
For he romps and frisks like a three-months colt,
And he runs me down like a thunder-bolt.
Oh, the blithest of sights in the world so fair
Is a gay little pup with his tail in air!

Yesterday I took Peanut to Petco for grooming and a bath. The poor little guy was so scared he tried to hid between my legs as the lady gently took his collar off of him. I had to leave him there for about two very long hours. When I came back to the store after doing a few earns it was a little early so I started to look around and all of the cool doggy stuff they had there. I found a new black winter coat with a fur collar for Peanut. The coat used Velcro to attach around his neck and chest so it is very easy to get on and off. When the little guy was ready to come out of the grooming area he was so happy to see me that he was dancing on his back two legs as he ran up to me. We then went to try on the coat and it was a perfect fit.

I put the new coat on him this morning and took him for a walk and then over to see the boys off to school. When we got back to the house he ran in and jumped up on the couch and just stood there. I went over to take his coat off and he was looking at me through the corner of his eyes. I said,”Why are you looking at me that way?” When I reached down to take the coat off I realized that the Velcro strip around his chest had stuck to the coach and he couldn’t move. I could not stop laughing at my poor little friend. Peanut didn’t think it was funny at all.

You will not believe this at all. I just took my dear little dog Peanut for a walk and he saw a squirrel on the ground and immediately ran after it. The squirrel ran part way up a large oak tree and Peanut tried to jump up to get the evil little rodent but couldn’t reach it. I pulled on Peanut leashes and said, “Peanut Come”. Peanut turned and started to run away as happy as he could be. This crazy little squirrel hopped down and started chasing after Peanut. The squirrel gave up after a few feet and Peanut never knew that he had been chased by one of his mortal enemies, a squirrel. It was so funning I almost dropped the leash.

Peanut has been a pill most of the day today. We went for our first walk at 6:30 AM this morning as normal and had coffee with mother as we do most everyday. Peanut sleeps (most of the time) on the foot of my bed on his own sheet all crumpled up in front of our fan but last night he was all over the bed. Most of the time Peanut was sleeping near the end of the bed laying horizontal in the middle of the bed so it was hard for me to put my feet one side or the other with out kicking the dear little boy. He is a living alarm clock. As soon as the clock hits 6:00 AM he is working on me to get up by “nosing me” and when I pretend that that I am still asleep he move up to my pillows above my head and looks for an opportunity to try to lick or nose me awake. I used to be a very grumpy person in the morning but each and every morning I wakeup with a smile with my little alarm clock Peanut.

Anyway back to the story. After we walked back to our house from mother’s place I started breakfast as I always do. We had eggs and sausage. He loves sitting next to me while I eat and reminds me that I should give him some. I always do after I eat. He then wanted to go for a 2nd walk and we did but it was only a short one for it looked like it would rain. About an hour later after playing for a few rounds of tug and pull and keep away with his rope and the his stuffed doggy toy he was back licking my arm wanting to go for a third walk. Well I took him to the front window and should Peanut that it was raining and I told him that he would not like it walking in the rain. A few minutes later, while I was working, Peanut came back in to my office and set down between my legs looking up at me. I started to tell him, “NO, we will not go for a WALK again”! But as soon as I looked at him I saw that he had brought me a bribe. In Peanut’s mouth was the half eaten rawhide bone that I had given him earlier this morning. I had to smile. He jumped up on my lap and then dropped his one thing that he owned just to get me go one more time for a walk.

You guessed it, we went for a walk and it was in the rain. Actually it was kind of nice and we both got a rain bath today.
